What Kind Of World Are We Creating?
Copyright © 2001, 2002 Dorian Scott Cole
These are editorials that specifically ask the question that is a major concern of the articles on this Web site, "What kind of world are we creating for ourselves?" These editorials are offered in the belief that we have to live with the consequences of our actions, and that as we evolve as a culture we have the ability both to learn from our past and at least make considered choices about our future. It is writers (all communicators) who have the ability to present the questions and initiate the discussions, raising the consciousness of our culture.
Whether or not the writer offers an opinion on the solution is up to the writer, however people tend to appreciate constructive suggestions more than destructive rabble-rousers. If nothing else, offering constructive solutions helps shift the target from the speaker to debating solutions. In stories, there is a difference between an individual's finding a solution for himself, and making it appear that one solution fits all.
